WWSF newsletter – Spring 2025

Spring wishes from the WWSF Board

Spring is in the air and we at WWSF are gearing up for an eventful few months ahead. We are busy planning a full schedule of fundraising activities which we very much hope you will continue to support in true dedicated ‘Scotter’ fashion. Read on for details.

Thanks to your fundraising efforts we continue to help and support those who need us around East Lothian. WWSF remains ready and waiting to support good causes again this year. If you see or hear of anything that we could and should be helping with, please let us know.

The Haven – an update

As you may be aware, late last year WWSF made a substantial award to support mental health support initiative ‘The Haven’ as it relocated from Tranent to Haddington. Our award, made via the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity, helped to ensure The Haven could continue to support many dozens of families in East Lothian. The venture has been a tremendous success, providing without doubt that there is demand for this type of mental health support for children and young people.

Unfortunately, and despite its success, The Haven has announced that it will close in July, which is the end of the initial two year pilot period. WWSF is extremely disappointed by this news. We hope that the success of the project and the learnings from it can be used to develop similar projects in the future. It is also our hope, but unfortunately not our expectation, that funding can be found to keep The Haven open so that local families can continue to benefit from the support that has been available over the last two years.

Important 2025 dates for your diary

WWSF decided to delay its traditional big boys breakfast to later in the year due to a few similar events being planned around our traditional April date. Watch this space for updates on an October date for the BBB.

We are planning our annual family fundraising day at EH32 Live at Cockenzie House on Saturday 23 August. See our socials for details of this.

Our annual ‘Weegie Budgie’ Golf Open will take place on Friday 5 September at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club.

Last but by no means least our 13th annual WWSF walk will take place on Saturday 20 September.  Details of the route etc will be circulated in due course, but for now please mark the date in your diary.
