Scotter’s Newsletter July 2021

A message from the WWSF Board: Your Foundation needs you!

Happy summer from the WWSF Board!  The weather has been glorious, in phases, and we hope you’ve been able to take advantage of it. No excuses not to get the walking shoes out and start limbering up for our September walk! Although we are making good progress, sign ups for WWS8 in September have been slower than we had hoped for – your Foundation needs you, so please sign up and encourage others to do the same!

We hope you Scotters are continuing to take good care of yourselves and those around you. As ever, if you hear or see things in our community that you think we can help with, please let us know.

WWS8: Sign up, its simple

An appeal from us this month for all you Scotters to sign up for our September walk.  What could be better than blasting away the cobwebs that have gathered over the last 18 months with a lovely walk in our beautiful County raising money for our beautiful Foundation? So please get signed up and encourage others to do the same.

For those of you who are concerned over COVID or just can’t summon up the energy – please be assured that the walk will be as safe as we can possibly make it.  And as ever, if you are only able to undertake part of the challenge, that’s absolutely fine. The WWSF Board is closely monitoring the current COVID situation and latest government guidance to ensure our compliance and your safety.

We’ve received questions over how to sign up, how to raise money and where to see the T&Cs.  We’ve tried to communicate through our social media, but apologies if we’ve confuddled you.  EVERYTHING you need to know is on the website www.walkwithscottfoundation.co.uk – under the ‘Walk With Scott 8’ section. If you still have any questions please let us know.

Fundraisers update: The calm before the storm

Fundraising has been quiet this last month as the holiday season has started to kick in. Hopefully this is the calm before the September storm as you all prepare for the walk.  This year we are asking people to try to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship for the walk.  Don’t panic though, we’ll not be holding any feet to the fire (they’ll be hot enough anyway, right?); its just a wee target to aim for – do your best.

We’re delighted to remind you that WWSF has been set up as an eligible charity for Amazon Smile. Its really easy to do, just select Amazon Smile within ‘programmes & features’ on the Amazon app and search for Walk With Scott Foundation.  You only have to do this one and afterwards WWSF will receive a donation every time you spend money on Amazon. Simple!

Please keep WWSF in mind if you are planning any fundraising events over the summer. Our commitment to you is that every penny you raise will be used to support great causes for great people across East Lothian.

What we have been up to: Over the rainbow with Leuchie and the big Hare trail

As you know, WWSF is a proud sponsor of The Big Hare Trail (www.thebigharetrail.co.uk). These hares are now  on display across North Berwick (10 weeks from 10 July). If you haven’t been down yet, you really must go!

Our Hare is a beauty that holds special significance to the Foundation. Named ‘Over the Rainbow’ it has been designed by local artist Rosie Watson who has drawn inspiration from the nature she has seen on her walks around East Lothian, including some of our regular walk routes.

Funds raised from sponsorship, the trail itself and eventual auction of the hares is expected to raise a lot of money for East Lothian based Leuchie House, which provides vital services to people all over Scotland.

Two more ambassadors on the way

As we reported earlier this year, the WWSF Board has agreed to appoint a number of ambassadors spread across East Lothian. These ambassadors will carry the ethos and spirit of the charity and work with the Board to promote and support the Foundation’s work. The ultimate objective is to widen WWSF’s reach and impact across our community.

We were absolutely delighted to announce Tom Shearer MBE as our first appointment. Tom is well known to many of us and a seasoned Scotter. Tom has worked in our local community for more than 30 years and we are excited that the Foundation will benefit from his experience and network of contacts.

Behind the scenes we have decided on two further ambassador appointments. We’ll be announcing details on these outstanding individuals in due course – watch this space.

If you know someone who would be a good fit with the ambassador role, please let us know. We’re particularly interested in appointing people around North Berwick, Haddington and Dunbar.

WWSF Merchandise – it’s here!

You may have seen on our social media that our new merchandise is now available for sale.  Details will also be on the website shortly. We have a range of high quality polo shirts, hoodies, jackets and hats for sale. Orders are starting to roll in. Look for the post on Facebook for details and how to order; or see it on our website https://walkwithscottfoundation.co.uk/wwsf-merchandise .  Any questions please let us know.

Events update: WWSF Walk, Ball (date change!) and Golf

As a reminder, we plan to hold our WWSF walk on Saturday 18 September 2021. A fantastic new 26 mile track has been set by route-master Gareth. As above, please sign up!

We are planning our annual WWSF Ball at the Royal Musselburgh GC on 27 November 2021. What a night that will be, something to look forward to at the end of this year.  Put it in your diary!

And we are also pleased to announce the second WWSF golf day will take place on 22 March 2022. The Royal Musselburgh GC will host the event and it will be bigger and better than ever, including some evening entertainment.
