WWSF newsletter – Autumn 2024

Warmest Autumn wishes from the WWSF Board

With the summer now in the rear view mirror and as we hunker down for the colder weather, we reflect on a busy summer of activities for WWSF. Thank you to everyone who was able to come along to our various events over the last few months – from our family day at Cockenzie House, to our Golf event, and our annual WWSF walk. Thanks also to Preston Lodge RFC for donating the gate fee and fund raising at the recent Jardine Cup match against Musselburgh.

Thanks to your fundraising efforts we continue to help and support those who need us around East Lothian; we have had an active year but remain ready and waiting to support good causes as we move into the latter stages of 2024. If you see or hear of anything that we could and should be helping with, please let us know.

WWSF supporting The Haven

As you may be aware, much of our fundraising over the summer has been to support The Haven. We look forward to announcing our final total award soon to this most worthy of causes. Watch this space!

The Haven is currently based on Tranent and run by the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital focusing on supporting families living in the area struggling with mental health related issues. The aim is to expand these ‘Haven’ services to other parts of East Lothian. WWSF hopes our support will make a real difference to families in East Lothian.

Walk 12 a great success & ladies take the golf prize

Thanks to all of our ‘Scotters’ who took part in Walk 12 at the end of August this year.  Sixty-five new and old Scotters took part with a great cross section of all ages, from 3 months to people in their 60s, and all abilities. We covered 14 miles across East Lothian with a couple of poignant moments. The first when the Scotters were piped among Scott Glynn Walk in Tranent, led by Gareth & Emily Glynn. The second when we all met Jack Henderson, who designed our initial logo with Scott’s face on it. A great day all in all, finished with food and a party at the Cockenzie Legion. All raising funds for The Haven in Tranent, funds are still being received and we look forward to presenting a cheque to the Haven in the near future. If you would like to donate, it’s not too late!  https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/walkwithscott12

Congratulations to Heather Shearer and her team of golfers for winning our recent Weegie Budgie Golf event.  Well played ladies!

Awards recap – WWSF continues to step up to help

Reflecting on what we have done so far this year we recap on a number of funding awards that we have been able to make this year. WWSF has again demonstrated that it truly is actively supporting good causes across East Lothian.

Earlier this year we supported ‘Keep The Heid’ Mental Health Cafe; The Bridges Project’s Listening Peers’; Home Start; Recharge & The Pennypit Trust (and related community kitchens). These have been followed by awards to Beyond Boundaries East Lothian and Dad’s Work/Men’s Shed.

WWSF remains well positioned to help those in need across our community who may be in need of assistance. WWSF welcomes applications for funding.  Please see our website for details of how to apply. https://walkwithscottfoundation.co.uk/apply/

Remembering Bob Bathgate

WWSF was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and untimely passing of our good friend Bob Bathgate. Bob was a great supporter of the Foundation through his attendance at our events and generous donations and support from The Seton Garden. RIP Bob, you will be sadly missed by us all.
