WWSF newsletter – August 2023

An important message from the WWSF Board: we need to walk!

We hope you are enjoying the better weather and light nights, even if it’s been a bit changeable of late. We are looking forward to a busy series of events over the coming weeks and need you, our Scotter family to support and promote these!

See below for details of the band day at Cockenzie House (EH32), the Weegie Budgie Charity open and of course WWSF Walk 11.

One key message from us: PLEASE sign up for the walk by 12 August https://walkwithscottfoundation.co.uk/walk-11/

We’re always on the look out for deserving causes across East Lothian that may benefit from our support. With the cost of living crisis, we all need to be alert to what is happening around us and to look after each other as best we can. We need you Scotters to be our eyes and ears, so if you hear or see things in our community that you think we can help with, please let us know.

Walk 11 on Saturday 9 September – we need you! Deadline 12 August!

As you know our annual WWSF Walk will take place on Saturday 9 September. The walk will start and finish at Cockenzie Legion and will be significantly shortened this year (to 10 miles) to make it suitable for everyone to be able to participate. A dedicated Facebook event page has been set up – please check it out and sign up using the link below.

WWSF needs you! This is our signature event and its so important for many reasons to have a good turnout – bring your friends and family – let’s get everyone talking about WWSF again.

WWSF charity day at EH32 – Saturday 12 August

The EH32 venue at Cockenzie House is a well known local gem providing live music and drinks in beautiful surroundings. We are delighted to announce that Saturday 12 August will be dedicated to WWSF. We would be delighted to welcome as many Scotters, friends and family as possible.

Entry is free – the fun starts at 2pm and finishes at 8pm. Let’s get the place rocking and get as many people together ahead of our big walk day on 9 September (see below).

Weegie Budgie Open at Royal Musselburgh GC – Friday 1 September

The WWSF golf day ‘Weegie Budgie Open’ will take place on Friday 1 September at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club. £300 entry for a team of 4, which includes food and entertainment and the chance to win some fantastic prizes.  Our thanks go to Alex Brown of Ideal Flooring Solutions for his generous sponsorship.

Activity update – MRT award, Mr Tam Cowan, Tranent Juniors

We are delighted to announce that WWSF supported Muirfield Riding Therapy to send four of its riders to the national RDA National Championships at Hartpury. Our matching award of £2k meant MRT was able to achieve its fund raising objectives and will also help to provide much needed kit for future riders to enjoy.

Big thanks to Tam Cowan for donating his speaking fee at a recent event at Ross High RFC to WWSF; a tremendous gesture from Tam who remains a loyal supporter of the Foundation. Also to Tranent Juniors who have installed two huge WWSF banners at the football ground – keep your eyes peeled next time you are there.

With funds in the bank from our recent events, WWSF is well positioned to help those in need across our community who may be in need of assistance. WWSF welcomes applications for funding.  Please see our website for details of how to apply. https://walkwithscottfoundation.co.uk/apply/
