WWSF newsletter – August 2022

WWSF Board recharging our batteries, plenty of challenges ahead

We hope all our followers and our Scotters are well and enjoying the summer weather.  We’ve had a relatively quiet couple of months as we recharge our batteries following a busy Spring and as we look ahead to what could prove to be a challenging Winter.

We’re always on the look out for deserving causes across East Lothian that may benefit from our support. With the cost of living crisis, we all need to be alert to what is happening around us and to look after each other as best we can. We need you Scotters to be our eyes and ears, so if you hear or see things in our community that you think we can help with, please let us know.

Looking ahead to our Scotters Ball on 12 November

Our annual Scotters Ball is always a highlight of our year. This will be held at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club on Saturday 12 November. This year our host will be entertainer, magician and WWSF friend Duncan Wilson. There will be auctions, raffles, delicious food, fantastic live music and great company. A great night for all is assured and we’ll aim to raise some funds for our great charity at the same time.

Help us to continue to help our amazing community. Individual tickets and tables of 10 are available at £50 per head. Please help us spread the word and contact us if you would like to come along.

Fundraising update – big thanks again to PL RFC and Iain Elder

This month we took receipt of significant sums from PL RFC and Iain Elder from previously announced fundraising exploits. We are extremely grateful to both and our commitment to them is that the funds will be used in the best possible way to help people in our community.

In fact Iain’s funds have already been put to work, with WWSF helping to fund a Cycling Without Age trishaw to be situated permanently at Leuchie House and available for all Leuchie users. We think this is an extremely worthy cause and an excellent use of the funds Iain has raised.

Please keep WWSF in mind if you are planning any fundraising events. Our commitment to you is that every penny you raise will be used to support great causes for great people across East Lothian.

Awards update – Beyond Boundaries, Cycling Without Age, Step Out, Men’s Shed

As reported in our last newsletter, we have made a number of awards over the last few months – Beyond Boundaries East Lothian, Cycling Without Age (as above), and Men’s Shed have all been recipients of awards to allow these organisations to continue to do the great work they do.

Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity continues to evaluate the feasibility of its ‘Step Out’ programme expected to take place later this year after WWSF agreed in principle to fund the initiative.

With a potentially challenging Winter ahead, WWSF is well positioned to help those in need across our community who may be in need of assistance.

WWSF welcomes applications for funding.  Please see our website for details of how to apply. https://walkwithscottfoundation.co.uk/apply/
