WWSF newsletter April 2022

Happy Easter from WWSF Board

Best wishes from everyone here at WWSF.  We hope you had a lovely Easter and enjoying some much needed better weather.  We’re pleased to report on a very busy few weeks just past with much needed funds raised for the Foundation. We’re also looking ahead to Walk 9, which is now only a few weeks away!

We’re always on the look out for deserving causes across East Lothian that may benefit from our support. We need you Scotters to be our eyes and ears, so if you hear or see things in our community that you think we can help with, please let us know.

Walk 9 is fast approaching – have you registered?

Our main event of the WWSF calendar is fast approaching. Walk 9 will take place on Saturday 7 May starting from Haddington RFC. We have a good number of walkers already signed up but there is always room for more if you haven’t already signed up please do so ASAP. If you have signed up, please remember to pay your walk fee!

We’re delighted to say that our friends from the Clark Community Choir will be taking part and no doubt helping to keep spirits high with some lovely signing along the route!

All the details for the walk are on our website – see link below.  We’ll be in touch over the coming weeks with further details for the walkers.

A number of individual walkers have set up their own fundraising page for the walk.  We have also set up a centralised ‘just giving’ page for those wishing to use it. Whether you are a walker or not, please share far and wide to help raise funds for the Foundation.

WWSF Golf Day – fine weather capped an awesome day

We wish to thank everyone at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club for hosting our Budgie Open. The Golf Club are fantastic supporters of the Foundation and we are again indebted to them for the role they play throughout the year. Thanks also to our Ambassador Sean McPhee and his team for the organising and smooth running of the day.

To everyone who supported the day: players, sponsors, if you donated prizes or bought raffles you are part of supporting many many groups and individuals across the County of East Lothian and we love you all for that.

Big Boys Breakfast – a big thank you!

We are pleased to say that the 2022 BBB was a terrific success. A 150 strong crowd were entertained by a trio of superb speakers namely John Gahagan, Raymond Mearns and Bill Copeland with a fantastic audience who supported us in raising £5,000 for worthy causes throughout East Lothian.

Our thanks again to every single one of you who helped to support the auction and raffle either donating or supporting. Our grateful thanks to go McKirdy Butchers, Peter Ford (Premier Bakers) for generously donating food items; and to Iain McLeod and all the staff at Cockenzie Legion for all their hard work on the day.

Save the date – Scotter’s Ball on 12 November

Our Scotter’s Ball is proving to be a real highlight to the end of each year and we expect this year to be no different.  This is a super fun night of laughter, food and dancing in great company; raising lots of money for the Foundation in the meantime. Put 12 November 2022 in your diary!

Scotters update – Iain Donaldson Elder and Mark Steedman

Joint Scotter of the year 2021, Iain Donaldson-Elder is at it again.  To celebrate his 60th Birthday Iain is undertaking a white water rafting challenge to raise funds for WWSF.  Challenging enough for any 60 year old, but as you may know Iain is an MS sufferer. Hats off from everyone at WWSF and best of luck Iain.  You can read all about it and support Iain by clicking on the link below.

WWSF wishes long-term supporter Mark Steedman a speedy return to health after his diagnosis with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Mark is currently undergoing treatment and everyone at WWSF sends our best wishes to him.  Mark’s friends at Preston Lodge RFC will be taking part in the Edinburgh half marathon and Mark has requested that all funds raised go to WWSF.  We are truly humbled that Mark would think of the Foundation at this time. The fund-raising link is below.

Please keep WWSF in mind if you are planning any fundraising events. Our commitment to you is that every penny you raise will be used to support great causes for great people across East Lothian.
