Scotter’s Newsletter June 2021

A message from the WWSF Board: Sun’s out, Bun(ions) out

WWSF Board sends its best wishes to our family of Scotters again this month. We hope you and your families are safe, healthy and happy. The weather is finally improving after, lets face it, a pretty dreich May.  No excuses not to get the walking shoes out and start limbering up for our September walk!

We hope you Scotters are continuing to take good care of yourselves and those around you. As ever, if you hear or see things in our community that you think we can help with, please let us know.

Congratulations to Josh Taylor

WWSF would like to extent our congratulations to Scotland’s new unified boxing world champion Josh Taylor.  As you may know, Josh as been a big supporter of the Foundation over the years and we could not be happier that all his hard work and dedication has paid off. Well done Josh and we hope you see you soon at one of our events.

Scotland Champions Award

The Daily Record and Sunday Mail are running The Scotland Champions Awards 2021 where you can nominate local heroes and projects. In 2019 our Community Kitchen came third in the award for community award, as you will be aware this was a charity close to Scott Glynn MBE’s heart and with all their work supporting people in the pandemic can we help them get that we bit further to the top spot. You can also nominate any other organisation or individual that you would like, but let’s get the fantastic organisations and people in East Lothian represented there. The link to nominate is https://www.scotlandschampions.co.uk/

Fundraisers update: Proud Mary!

Raising funds over the last year has been very challenging. At the same time, the number of projects and organisations needing our support has never been higher. Therefore any fund raising that is being done is being even more gratefully received than normal. After her outstanding TikTok efforts last year, our wee Mary Kidd has been at it again. This time she has raised more than £2,500 for the Foundation from her 12-hour fun relay.  Thank you so much Mary, you are truly a superstar!!

We are also delighted to confirm that WWSF has been set up as an eligible charity for Amazon Smile. Its really easy to do, just select Amazon Smile within ‘programmes & features’ on the Amazon app and search for Walk With Scott Foundation.  You only have to do this one and afterwards WWSF will receive a donation every time you spend money on Amazon. Simple!

Please keep WWSF in mind if you are planning any fundraising events over the summer. Our commitment to you is that every penny you raise will be used to support great causes for great people across East Lothian.

What we have been up to: supporting Leuchie

WWSF is proud to announce that we are sponsors of The Big Hare Trail (www.thebigharetrail.co.uk). These will be on display for 10 weeks from 10 July across North Berwick. Having had a sneak preview, we can assure you that these are very impressive with some amazing art from local artists.

The WWSF Hare is very special indeed (we think its the best one, but we are biased) and we think you are going to love it as much as we do. We can’t reveal it yet, but check out the website above and our own social media and website for more news in the coming weeks. Funds raised from sponsorship, the trail itself and eventual auction of the hares is expected to raise a lot of money for East Lothian based Leuchie House, which provides vital services to people all over Scotland.

Welcome Tom Shearer MBE as a WWSF ambassador

As we reported last month the Board has agreed to appoint a number of WWSF ambassadors spread across East Lothian. These ambassadors will carry the ethos and spirit of the charity and work with the Board to promote and support the Foundation’s work. The ultimate objective is to widen WWSF’s reach and impact across our community.

We are absolutely delighted to announce Tom Shearer MBE as our first appointment. Tom is well known to many of us and a seasoned Scotter. Tom has worked in our local community for more than 30 years and we are excited that the Foundation will benefit from his experience and network of contacts.  Please join us in welcoming Tom as our latest WWSF Ambassador.

Please watch this space for further appointments in the coming months as we look to strengthen and improve our reach around the County.  If you know someone who would be a good fit with the ambassador role, please let us know. We’re particularly interested in appointing people around North Berwick, Haddington and Dunbar.

WWSF Merchandise – its coming!

We’re delighted to announce that we are almost ready to roll out a new range of WWSF merchandise.  We will be revealing a range of very nice clothing, including t-shirts, hoodies, jackets and hats – keep an eye on our social media and website for more details.

Events update – WWSF Walk, Ball (date change!) and Golf

As a reminder, we plan to hold our WWSF walk on Saturday 18 September 2021. A fantastic new 26 mile track has been set by route-master Gareth. Further details including our updated T&C’s, sign up information and fundraising information will all be announced soon – please keep an eye out for more information as it is released.

We are now planning to host our annual WWSF Ball at the Royal Musselburgh GC on 27 November 2021 (note this is one week later than previously advertised). What a night that will be, something to look forward to at the end of this year.  Put it in your diary!

And we are also pleased to announce the second WWSF golf day will take place on 22 March 2022. The venue has been agreed and it will be bigger and better than ever, including some evening entertainment.
